The Two Fish and the Frog
Two fish named Hundred-Wit and Thousand-Wit lived in a pond with a plain frog.
One evening the frog heard fishermen say they would come at dawn.
"Let us leave tonight," said the frog. The fish laughed at him.
"We have a hundred tricks and a thousand tricks," they said. "We will manage."
The frog and his family hopped away that very night to another pond.
In the morning the nets came, and all the clever tricks in the world were too late.
Cleverness used too late is no cleverness at all.
